Cold Chain = Care Amplified

ree

What is the "cold chain"?

Thought you would never ask... per our friends at Wikipedia:

A cold chain is a supply chain that uses refrigeration to maintain perishable goods, such as pharmaceuticals, produce or other goods that are temperature-sensitive...

The objective of a cold chain is to preserve the integrity and quality of goods such as pharmaceutical products or perishable good from production to consumption.

In short, cold chain logistics are important in order to maintain the full efficacy and safety of many medications.

We recently received a much anticipated delivery at our site in Guatemala.

A beautiful medical grade refrigerator courtesy of a generous grant from Direct Relief International.

While on the surface a new appliance may not seem too exciting, when one realizes the vital role the refrigerator plays in maintaining the integrity of the pharmaceutical cold chain and recognizes its potential to augment and amplify the care we are able to provide to our patients, the fridge becomes quite exciting indeed.

Our new refrigerator will allow us to maintain a constant supply of potentially life-saving medications such as insulin.

The newly installed refrigerator holds the potential to positively impact our patient population now and well into the future.

Stay cool.
